My black Golf has been fairly mucky for a few weeks now. Just went to a drive thru car wash, and when I was at the boot shortly after, I noticed pretty bad scuffing on the top of the bumper, where you might load stuff in and out of the boot.

Now they might have been there beforehand, but both myself and the OH haven't been loading anything in or out of the boot in recent weeks.

Is it possible that the brushes on the car wash could have scuffed it? Or would I see scratches elsewhere too? I don't want to go complain if its unlikely them who caused it.

Final question, how easy would it be to fix? Is there something specifically for the task of scuffed plastic?

You have no recourse to explain tbh, Its an auto wash. they collect dust and dirt. You use them at your peril.

Most likely they were there already. But regardless, if you value time use them. If you value the paintwork steer clear of them totally.

You cant really complain about an autowashes brushes.

    Yeah I'm guessing no comeback....
... so what about getting them out/covering them?

Any good product anyone can recommend?

Upload a picture of the damage. We need to see the severity of the scuffing to recommend a product.

Cheers, will try to get one done and have it up for later/tomorrow.

How old is the Golf? I see cars with wrecked back bumpers daily due to people ignorantly taking stuff out of the boot and marking the bumper, if it's a few years old I reckon they were there before hand but obviously a photo would give a clearer indication.

It's a 2016, we are usually pretty careful with the car, that's why I was shocked when I seen the marks.

It might not have been the car wash that did it, but we are racking our brains and can't remember anything we would have been doing ourselves recently that would have caused it.

That's definitely from inconsiderate use. A machine wash would be way more consistent. It could've been covered somewhat with a filler glaze type products which dealerships like to use for a quick shine.

    Thats pretty rough alright.
You could try some of this by hand or preferably machine if you have one

It may take a while to bring those out and I don't think it will ever be perfect but it should help.

Supposedly that halfords brand is a rebranded version of farecela g3. I used it before and was pretty happy with it
