What am i doing wrong, not getting saorview on saorview approved tv

Hoping this is me just having another blonde moment and I missed clicking something!!!!
Was setting up a new tv in the spare room. The room is rarely used but will be from now on and the old tv was working fine with the analogue channels on it. They are being switched off in the area so picked up a saorview approved set and checked it was on their list of approved sets on the saorview site.
Plugged out the cable from the old tv and into the new one and began to set up. Ran a full scan and set it to pick up analogue and digital. It picked up the 16 analogue channels from before, crystal clear but didn't pick up saorview, which i thought as strange. It saved a heap of sky channels that are scrambled and picked up digital radio in Ireland (4fm Galway bay etc) as well as BBC radio but no saorview!!!!
Did i miss a setting when setting it up? I clicked on Ireland and that i wasn't connecting from set top box.
Never had an issue like this as the main tvs are digital boxes with the service provider. But I'm assuming as the cable is picking up the analogue channels perfectly, its not an ariel issue?
    Any suggestions?

Are the main TVs saorview compatible and plugged directly into the aerial wall socket (I.e. not using any set top box)?

Sounds like the cable isn't connected to an aerial but Virgin Media/UPC.

You won't receive Saorview through it to my knowledge. You're going to need an aerial to be able to receive it.

Check this thread, someone in the same situation. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=106745430

Your TV point is connected to the cable network which doesn't carry Saorview, a separate aerial is required

Check that you are tuning the DVB T channels (Saorview) and not just DVB C channels (Virgin / UPC).

Although, as mentioned above, it appears you're not connected to an aerial (that you will need for Saorview), like this...

We got Saorview a few months ago.

As the house did not have a connected aerial, we purchased a 'One 4 All' rabbit ears for €30.

Works fine 99% most of the time, with an occasional physical nudge some days.

You could try a really basic freeview aerial like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Magnetic-Freeview-Aerial-Terrestrial-Television/dp/B00AER2WZ0/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?s=network-media&ie=UTF8&qid=1527672823&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=freeview+aerial&psc=1

or a little better one like this
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Freeview-HD-Indoor-Aerial-Television/dp/B00993HK20/ref=sr_1_5?s=network-media&ie=UTF8&qid=1527672823&sr=1-5&keywords=freeview+aerial&dpID=31sPtdODftL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

I have used both on saorview TVs and both work fine (in Dublin) but have found that switching other components on (like Xbox) can mess with the signal a little.

When you plugged the cable into the new saorview TV and it picked up scrambled sky type channels, as another poster said, that would indicate that the cable is going to a set top box (sky / upc etc) and not a saorview aerial. On a saorview TV with a functioning aerial plugged in, you should not see any scrambled sky type channels as these are not broadcast on saorview.

Thanks all. Blonde moment alright i reckon!!!

There's an aeriel on the roof but took a bit of battering in the recent bad weather so probably out of position. I'm guessing it was plugged in to the main tv at one stage and the cable in the spare tv is connected to UPC somewhere to pick up the analogue before shut off. If i find the aerial connection, does it plug into the set top box or main tv, will that do anything ? I know theres no other aerial connection upstairs in the spare tv, just the cable in it atm.

Checked the old rabbits ears and indoor aerial suggestions mentioned. Seem to be hit a miss on reviews. According to saorview I'm 8k away from the transmitter ...... so might pick one up and chance it. Not wasting a fortune if it doesnt pick up anything

Failing that theres always hooking up the iphone to the vga adapter and hdmi and streaming from the virgin anywhere, using the iphone like a remote :D

You were robbed! Dealz do one for €1.50 which is just as good i.e. will only work in a strong signal area.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.
