Ah jaysis, where will people get their drugs? This is not good for jobs or the economy

But this is such a necessary service! What will drunks do to fly down Grafton street shouting and waving at strangers like spas? And where will people buy their drugs? And who will take up half the road and run red lights and cause traffic jams?

I know we can get all these things from other places but it was so convenient to have them all supplied by one fantastic service. I don't think Shane Ross has thought this through.

One thing I would say about them though is that they do serve a function. After a gig in the Point 10,000+ people come streaming outside but there is never a taxi in sight. A taxi driver told me this is because it is not worth their while going out to the Point empty to pick up a short 10 euro fare into the city centre. As a result there is always stacks of rickshaws outside the Point to pick up the slack for those who dont want to walk the 2km or get on a jammed Luas.

All that said I do find them annoying and a bit tacky tbh. But I dont think they should be banned. Taxed, licensed and insured but not banned.

    Will they give them up?

    I'm let down.

We'll all have to run around after they've deserted us.

Presumably if they are banned they can be confiscated.

Thought people on boards hate others doing nixers and not paying tax? What you think rickshaw drivers are ;)

Now now, can't have people undercutting protected businesses with low cost solutions. Free market ideas have no place in a socialist society.

Because drunks are stupid? These work in plenty of places where this isn’t a problem. Sorry that’s not true in Dublin, I guess.

If they're anything like the ones in London there's nothing low cost about them. They rip off countless tourists with fares far higher than even black taxis would charge, total gougers.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

How rickshaws are allowed yet Uber is illegal in this country is beyond me.

I'd prefer to see a ban on sulkeys on the roads. But that's not on Lord Ross's agenda, no piebalds in his area, I'm sure.
