Hi all, we running a Stihl MS 390 and normally used a 20 inch bar but have some big pine trunks to cut coming up very soon so will use the 25 inch bar and chain on it instead. Last time we did this though, chain kept getting tight, sprocket at end of the Stihl bar tightened and whole thing had to be opened to free it up. Particularly problematic when there was no clearance/daylight at the nose of the bar like when cutting big stuff. Any thoughts or experiences on how to resolve this. Trunks which we will need to cut are over 4 foot in diameter so a lot of cutting to be done where the end of the bar will not be clear. BTW we use a Stihl bar and chain, using proper chain oil (not sure of brand but bought at Stihl dealer) and oiler advanced up fully but still this issue arises. TIA

First, how worn is the chain, are the rakers taken down and are the drive links all straight?
Secondly,(and more likely) is the 25” bar ok
Longer bars and occasional use,is it stored properly? in so far as could it have fallen and damaged the guide sprocket, can you turn it freely with an air brush or even with your finger?
Are the guide rails parallel and even, without burrs,or is the bar bent?
Thirdly,Does your saw drive sprocket fit your 25”chain?
Suggest a trip to your local dealer with saw,bar and chain!
