    Hey all,

So Im currently with Sky BB but I'm out of contract and currently looking around as to what options I have.

Currently cant get Fibre so looking at Lightnet or Airwire....or just moving to someone like Eir who are currently cheapest.

Before I move, I just want to see if theres anything I can do myself/speak to sky about regarding my current internet.

I average 10/11mb dl and about 0.2/3 upload. Ping usually comes in at about 100ms - 120ms.

It often goes to complete **** and if Im gaming online and if Facebook or anything else is used, the whole thing lags like hell. And this is with the Xbox wired.

Anyways I copied my Router Statistics from the Sky page. Is this normal and my net is just generally ****e or is there anything I can do to fix it?

The upload is a big issue there and that's down to the quality of your line.

    Where are you located ?

Located in Headford Galway. Regarding the quality of the line, is that the actual wiring in the house or is it more of whats in the general area in Headford?

Going by the details you've given it looks like an 850m loop from the exch(750 to cab, 100m further to you).

That should give you 20Mb ADSL(you say you're on 10Mb which doesnt make sense in any setup) or a little bit more from EVDSL (What eir call one form of eFibre).

Are you sure on your distances? If so I'd take that prequal with a big pinch of salt. If you want to PM me your ph number I can dump the full info about the line.

The line is prequalifying a little low for where you are. Potentially its quality isn't quite what it should be. You could try and tease that out with your ISP but it may be tedious. 10Mb is definitely underperforming.

eFibre wise things do point to you being on the incomplete cab. The fact that its incomplete at this stage of the game may hint there are problems with finishing it (such as ESB power or council licence to dig).

Really appreciate you looking into that. Couple of quick questions.

When you say quality is a little low, what sort of difference would I be looking at if they actually sorted it?

Is Efibre different to regular Fibre? (sorry if this is a daft question) And anyway to find out if they will finish that incomplete cabinet?

Im guessing the cabinet at the top left of the town which is due by Winter wont affect me so?
    ED E wrote: »
There are only two cabinets, 1 and 2, 1 is live(East), 2 is planned(South) and then the exchange itself which is live also. If you want to find out about the cabinet try catching a Local OpenEir van and ask nicely. May know, may not.

The naming is stupid: eFibre = 7Mb/s and 1000Mb/s. GJ Eir Marketing. 150, 300 and 1000Mb are real fibre. You will not get this (too close to town, "Green Zone"). You will get fake fibre (7-100Mb, soon to be sped up a little more).

800m is close enough for 22-24Mb in an ideal world. Being more realistic I would be unhappy below 18Mb.

Yes, thats what you should be at today. And its also a low rating.

If you want follow this post:
    https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Fibre/How-to-find-your-Router-Stats/td-p/2345276
And start a new thread with the info. Those are something you can fix today potentially not an indefinite wait.

His upload is exactly as expected, not sure what you're on about there M.

That dAtten reading is high considering position but even still you should be at 20Mb on the DS (or at least 15Mb of the prequal for now).

Is the modem at the master socket? (A double one hopefully) What part of the house?
Is it on a short cable?
Are there any landline phones connected anywhere in the house?
Is there or WAS THERE a monitored alarm?
    Medical alert (panic button)?

Modem is at the master socket (double) - located in the hall
    Short cable
    No phone at all
No monitored alarm...renting so there may have been on.
    No panic button.

Last time I spoke to Sky, all they wanted to do was send me out a replacement router. :/

You'll have to egg the sky agents into performing a line test(phone) and escalating it to the field.
