Guys I have decided on a Tudor Pelagos with the ETA movement over the in-house. What would be your recommendations regarding buying from Chrono24?

Is there anything in particular to watch out for when buying from a user?

Great looking watch. I'd love one. I'm not familiar with chrono24. I take it there second hand?

It's a marketplace, so the same rules apply as any other type of site.

I've yet to hear anything too positive about their so-called buyer protection, and having used their trusted checkout as a buyer, the process was a bit unclear and I'm still annoyed at the premium I had to pay as a buyer.

Insist on a courier; no local mail service.

    Nice choice of watch though!

Haggle, as Eoin says it's a market place. Only bought one watch there and it went smoothly, I used paypal.

Out of interest why are you favouring the ETA movement over the in-house one?
The ETA is an excellent workhorse movement, but the in-house used in the Pelagos and Black Bay's respectively have longer power reserves, and are considered superior.
I would avoid Chrono24 to be honest, reason being often the grey market dealers on there have a tendency to over-polish pieces to remove scratches. Or use pictures that aren't of the actual piece for sale.
For pre-owned Tudor pieces I highly recommend Watchfinder.co.uk
Or alternatively have a look at new Pelagos prices on Montredo.com
Both sites are very safe to purchase a Tudor piece from respectively. I would trust them over Chrono24 personally.

Well from looking at different forums and blogs online alot of people are saying that the ETA movement might be a better option for a number of reasons.

    1. Cheaper to service and work can be carried out by most good watch makers being an ETA movement, plus plenty of parts available for that movement Vs the in-house Tudor that would have to go back to Tudor to be serviced.

    2. It might be a more collectable piece due to the shorter production run and the 2 lines of writing on the dial vs 5.

Iv wanted this watch for the past 3 years but only got the funds in place for it now.

The problem is I'm slightly worried about the way Titainum shows scratches so easily which now leeds me to wonder should I buy a cheaper titanium Steinhart and keep saving for a Rolex explorer or a Omega Planet ocean 600m 39.5mm?

Thanks for explaining. I like both the ETA and in-house movements respectively; but would favour the latter personally.
Agreed, an ETA will be no problem for an independent to service which is a factor worth considering. But also bear in mind that Tudor in-house movements will be as good as Rolex so run for 10 years+ before needing a service in reality. With regard to Titanium scratching, one can polish minor scuffs out using Scotchbrite (green washing up sponge). Anything deeper can be removed with a Dremel and green jewelers rouge (buffing compound). Both the Dremel and green rouge can be bought cheaply from Amazon.co.uk
The Steinhart Ocean range are all excellent pieces, including the titanium ones. For the price tier they cannot be beaten value/quality.
Check out these two pieces, maybe you would fancy one of them?

I agree with you that the earlier ETA Pelagos has a cleaner, better looking dial; than the later in-house with all the text.
