Lucan Vs Shankill

So I'm not from Dublin so haven't much knowledge on the areas. I work around the sandyford/leopardstown area and i drive to work. Currently looking at apartments in both areas and not sure which to go for.

I've two friends in Lucan but shankill i would have my own bathroom. They're the two big selling points for me.

That aside what are the amenities like? I don't see much with regards supermarkets or gyms or any sort of socialising classes in shankill. However Lucan seems to have more in that sense. But it don't know either area so any advice?

The commute from Shankill would be easier I would think, if that is important to you.

What type socialising do you look for?

    Nearby supermarkets
    Lidl and SuperValue in Bray
    Tesco express in the village
    Tesco Ballybrack
    Dunnes Cornekscourt
Lidl Shankill opening sometime in the next 10 years :)

Gyms , Ben Dunne cherrywood , loughlinstown leisure centre,
Several in Bray. And there a few smaller gyms around to.

I'm newly single so want to be able to socialise whenever i can. Anyone i know in Dublin is based in the city and around Lucan/tallaght.

What is parking like in shankill? The apartment i was offered doesn't come with guaranteed parking is there any estates around it could park in?

Much easier to get in and out of the City Centre from Shankill with the Dart, the 145 bus route and the M11 than Lucan. Not sure about parking though.

You'd have a much, much easier commute to work too - Lucan to Sandyford/Leopardstown every morning would be nightmare. Probably 15 minutes to 45/an hour in Lucan.

Have you considered anywhere else? I work in sandyford and would not fancy moving to either place.

A taxi from the city centre to shankill costs a lot. That 145 bus is very good though.

Happy to consider anywhere but this is what's on offer and im a bit tight for time on moving as i need to move out of my current place in tallaght in three weeks.
Lots of good feedback on the 145 bus i hate Dublin bus in general so what makes this one different?

Indeed, I have woken up in shankill more times than I care to remember (forget?)

seems to be much fewer nowadays, and only on the hour. I remember them being far more frequent years back.

there are plenty of them and they fly along the bus lane on the N11. The 7 stop is much closer to me but I often get the 145 as it is so frequent I usually do not bother trying to time it.

I was once going to vicar street and put it into the dublin bus automated site and it recommended the 145 which never crossed my mind before, it goes along the quays to heuston.

below is the 7 route, which used to be great years ago but has bizarrely few city centre stops now. I thought the bus driver was being a prick and ignoring me ringing the bell before!

Can anyone advise on shankill parking? Is it safe for a car to be left in street parking?
