Beech roots potential problem?

    Hi,

I bought a house a few years ago where the previous owner had planted a beech tree text to the septic tank (block type tank). The tree also appears to be planted above the pipe leading from the house in to the tank.

I really like the tree but I'm concerned that as it grows larger it could damage the tank/pipe. The diameter of the trunk is now about 10cm.

Would it be best to cut it down and kill it at this point or do beech tree roots pose a serious problem? I'm inclined to cut it down after the summer.

    thanks for any advice.
