I'm having the worst week ever device wise. Last week a windows update destroyed my machine this week an system update for my S6 has done something similar.

Anyway I tried a factory reset from boot but that's stuck at formatting data so now I'm trying to restore the phone using Smart Switch. I am following a tutorial on youtube but am running into trouble on locating the imei and serial number. On the video @1.12 he holds volume down, power and home and ends up with a blue screen with warning "a custom OS can cause critical problems ". That's cool that's exactly what I get too but from there he simply hits home and his bar codes with his imei and serial pop up straight away. He hits home again and he gets his product number.

However on my phone from the blue screen I hit home and it takes me straight to my product number it completely skips over the imei and serial number. Ive tried it now a couple of times and its always the same result. My imei isn't on the back of my phone and I have no idea now how to find it.

That video is a year or two old so I'm wondering now is there maybe a different way to locate the serial number and imei

    Thanks

You hardly kept the box? Did you buy it from Vodafone or whoever maybe ring and ask? Receipts or email receipts?

Unfortunately its a refurbished phone so the only way to get the details is from the phone itself. In fairness I got a price of €25 for repair so its not so bad Ill just have to make sure I take a copy of the details this time in case it happens again

Samsung have a thing with details store in EFS not hardware and if you wipe them they're gone gone. Ciao bye bye.

Common enough issue where devices that were illegitimately unlocked will brick upon update etc.

I dont know the details but a good googling should get you a firm answer.
