I came across this little fella while walking my dog this evening on a footpath in a large housing estate. It was absolutely tiny. I think it's a baby goldfinch. He was very distressed making a lot of noise. My dog a Yorkshire terrier was trying to grab it. I just picked it up & placed it in a nearby tree and hoped it's mother would find it. But I can't help but worry about it. I hope it will be OK

Looks like a juvenile Great Tit to me and, yes, you did the right thing and let nature take its course. If the parents are still around they should find it and resume feeding it. :)

It's newly fledged and will be fine.

I’d say since since Bob the goldfinch, a lot of baby goldfinches are deliberately jumping out of nests in the hope of internet stardom
