co2 discrepancy on VRT calculation

The co2 listed for a car type on the UK's Vehicle Certification Agency is different to Revenue's VRT calculator.

It's higher on the VRT calculator meaning a higher VRT rate and motor tax.

Does anyone know how this works in practice or how it can be challenged?

    Thanks in advance.

There are many different versions of the same model and spec on lots of cars.

What is the exact model/spec you have, manual or auto, the year, and the co2 figure on the V5

I entered the same details for a theoretical car on both sites.

They go off the co2 figure on the car's V5c registration document, the VRT calculator is only an estimate.

Can I take the UK figure as correct on http://carfueldata.direct.gov.uk/search-new-or-used-cars.aspx?

Put the reg into cartell.ie and it will tell you the co2 figure on the particular car.

Your depending on that source to be accurate also. The only accurate way to be sure is check the car's V5c registration document.

It seems the co2 emissions are tweaked prior to the new UK registration dates (March and September) despite there being no other changes in the model.

Is Cartell the best vehicle history checker to use?

Cartell or Motorchck are fairly equal IMO.
There are UK checks that might work out cheaper.

Only pay for a check if you’re about to buy the Car, or going especially to the uk to look at it.

Also. Parkers.co.uk is great for checking emissions figures for a particular trim level. It’s in the facts and figures section.

You can check the current tax status on most UK(not sure if NI included) cars, including CO2 from the V5 here,if you have its Reg no.:
