Am I a Citizen?!

    Hi all!

I would appreciate some help on this.

My Mum was born in the UK to Irish parents and moved to Ireland when she was very young and grew up here. My Dad was born in the UK and lived there until I was two years old. My Mum moved to the UK to work where she met my dad and I was born in England. When I was 2 my parents moved to Ireland and I have lived here ever since (approx 23 years now).

My parents have always been on British passports and I have always had one too. Younger siblings have Irish ones as they were born here but parents just continued renewing my British one for handiness. For the past few years I have been meaning to apply for an Irish passport through my grandparents but have kept putting it off as its quite an expensive procedure.

Anyways now I am beginning to wonder whether I even need to do that as I discovered recently that I was registered to vote in the referendums (as are my parents) and I know that only Irish citizens are entitled to vote in referendums.

So basically my question is... am I an Irish citizen?!

Sorry if this seems a stupid question!

I suspect you aren't an Irish citizen, although things may be dependent on your mother, e.g. was she registered as an Irish citizen at birth or ever carried an Irish passport. You need proper advice.

Being so registered is not evidence of being a citizen.

    A) born in Ireland
    B) child of a parent born in Ireland
    C) naturalization
