    Any ideas what would have caused these flights to be cancelled? I'm assuming it's just something the tour operator splurted out to try to fob off people...

    One thousand stranded Liverpool fans’ hopes of reaching Saturday’s Champions League final in Kiev were unresolved on Thursday night after the city’s mayor Joe Anderson attempted to broker landing slots for two of the three supporters’ charter flights cancelled at the last minute.
    ....
    Liverpool blamed a “dispute” between World Choice Sports and Borispyl airport “over the size of the aircraft” for the cancellation of the flights from Liverpool John Lennon airport. The club said that it had worked with the city council, Uefa and the authorities in Kiev, “endeavouring to resolve the issue since it first came to light and will continue to do so until all avenues have been exhausted.”

    I was wondering the same. 1,000 people so they must be three widebodies so maybe the airport has no more room for widebodies.

    Not enough slots, apparently.

    According to the Irish Times;
    “Flights chartered by World Choice Sports had been set to take supporters to Ukraine, but a dispute between the Widnes-based travel company and the aviation authorities in Kiev over the size of the aircraft has led to the trips being cancelled."
    Jesus you'd be fairly sickened after paying through the nose for flights, accommodation and a match ticket. Hope it gets resolved or they secure a slot at another airport in the area.

    Yeah I figured it was about slots really. Blaming it on "size of the airplane" makes it seem like they had it planned correctly at first and then something unforseeable happened.

    Whereas really they sold tickets for a flight to an airport that they didn't know that they could land in.

    Same thing happened to Munster supporters a few years ago, Cardiff decided it would not accecpt wide bodies at the last minute, we were flow to Birmingham instead and bused to Cardiff.:mad:

    Ridiculous situation. If UEFA want to hold finals in far flung places like this they should at least ensure the logistics of the event are feasible.
