Broadband on Lightnet(or alternative)

    Hey all,

So Im living in Headford, Galway and although its a live Fibre area, I still can't get access to it. I live right in the town so Im looking at alternatives and Lightnet has been recommended to me by a friend.

He also lives in Galway but another area. I spoke with lightnet and while they will send out an engineer to test the speed/signal strength, they mentioned that if the engineer deems the speed acceptable but I dont, I will have to pay a call out charge of 35 euro.

They didnt mention what their acceptable limit is but anything below 20mb for me isnt really worth the change.

So my question is, is there anyone around Galway and namely the Headford area that could give me a rough estimate of the speeds they are currently getting?

At present im hitting 10/11mb with Sky BB but the quality is terrible especially in the evening. Upload is 0.2 and ping usually lands at around 80-130ms

Also if you knew what latency/ping was like that would be great as Im big into online gaming.

    Any info much appreciated.

Call them back and say what speed is acceptable to you and make it clear that you are not going to pay a call out charge if the speed is less than what is acceptable to you, if they don't agree, call Airwire

    Hi,

on the Pro packages on our standard fixed wireless, we offer a maximum of 20 Mbit/s. A lot of bases can't deliver more than 15 Mbit/s. Speed is down to what we test the signal, when we install and Pro varies from 6-20 Mbit/s, depending on signal. The customer is told on the day, what it's capable of. So that wouldn't suit you.

In Headford, there is a chance, that you're within Jet coverage (check our coverage checker at: https://www.airwire.ie/avail ) it won't be installed, unless we hit 50 Mbit/s down and 10 Mbit/s up. You don't have to go for a lesser product, if that's what you ordered. So if you order Jet and it fails, there will be no cost to you, even if we could have offered you our normal FWA service.

    Hope this helps.
