Best place to sell a car privately

    Hi All,
I have been reassigned to a job for 2 years in the US, and, as a result, I want to sell my car (which I recently bought) - Lexus IS300H 2014.
I have limited experience selling a car privately & was wondering if I would be better off selling on carzone or through a dealer? Would the best approach be to value the car myself first - any assistance here would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kind regards
    Jack

Your biggest problem will be finding a private buyer for a high value car so may not matter where you advertise it but dondeal.ie tends to have the highest car buying audience.

The easiest option could be to go back to the garage you bought the car from. They may be interested in buying it back if they know it.

You may not be happy with their offer however.....

How much did you buy it for, and what’s the mileage?

I have it up on Carzone now. Bought it for 22,500 about half a year ago, now up for sale for 20,950. Am not sure if I can put the link up on here.

It's probably lost more than €1500 in six months.

Jesus thats not ideal. Surely the VRT / import costs would bring it up more?

VRT is tiny on them being Hybrid. Friend paid €1500 on a 2014

    There's 2 2014 models up on UKcarimports.

One with 100k miles for 14.5k euro.
One with 48k miles for 18.5k.

    Including VRT and delivery charges.

That's what you'll be competing with.

Photos of your car are not very good.
No photos of the inside of car.

My sister had a e class she was having trouble selling (1200 road tax) afew few years ago. 2008 Mercedes-benz E-class E 280 CDI Elegance
She sold it at auction in Kildare.
Was withdraw from sale after failing to meet reserve.
Sold after one of the bidders made an offer.

The problem you will have is simple, quick look at https://www.cargiant.co.uk/car/lexus/is-300h/DA65GSU

That could be got in for around the €19k mark. Better deals could be had if you buy private too. So, you will do very well to achieve your current price to be honest, plus not the best time of year to sell private. I don't think you will recoup the high price you paid for it unfortunatly.

Hi all, managed to sell the above, thanks for your help. I am also now going to be staying in Dublin so i want to downsize.

I am looking to buy something smaller & older , about 7 - 8 k, with relatively low car tax and low on the insurance but still with a bit of character, anyone any suggestions, I was thinking an old BMW or maybe save up and get an old CT 300H. Any help much appreciated

If you are mainly using it around Dublin and don't need a lot of space or rear doors then this might be worth a look at:

Insurance might not be so straightforward though being a Japanese import.

Cheers Bazz, thats exactly the sort of car im looking for, thanks for your help. Is the insurance a lot higher on imports?

Can well be as these cars were never intended to be sold in Europe so they can have odd specs and some parts are not interchangeable with European models.

The Honda CR-X was never officially sold in Ireland but it was in the UK so you might find it easier to insure a UK model than a Japanese one. The UK ones would have mph/kph dials and rectangular shaped rear number plate whereas Japanese ones would have an odd looking stereo, kph only dials and square shaped rear number plate.

Is that not a CR-Z? It was sold in Ireland.

Yes correct a CR-Z but if they were sold in Ireland they didn't too many of them.

Livia Red Sociologist had an "Irish one". I know of 3 other similar ones.

Might go for an old CT200H, what year did they come out? Earliest seems to be 2011
