Buying house in Ireland but going away

    Hi all,

I'm just curious because I'm a first time buyer and don't know much about the process. I'm currently in the process of buying a house but I will be away for a few weeks abroad and I'm wondering is there any part of the procedure that requires me to sign something in the presence of a solicitor for example, and how would I do that if I am not in the country?

    Any help appreciated.

Talk to your solicitor about exactly when you will be away and how this will intersect with the various stages of the house-buying process. But, yes, you do have to sign lots of documents, and this could be a really bad time to be away. It may be possible to get around the problem by you executing a power of attorney giving authority to someone else (who will be here, obviously) to sign documents on your behalf, but that's not something to be done lightly. This is something that would have to be lined up before you left.
