Hi fols have an area 16 feet by 2.5 feet that has always been an area were Decorative Bark, was on it just getting fed up with cats birds on it etc,

this is just an area for holding potted plants nobody will be really walking on it

However you prepare you'll end up having stuff growing in the gravel seeded from above, so I'd be inclined not to bother with weed membrane and simply put down the gravel in place of the bark.

Larger angular gravel will move less than smaller rounder gravel.

The more depth the harder it will be to walk on.

Builders providers can deliver gravel in bulk, but you probably only need about 300 litres if my maths is right.

    Put the membrane down!
At least if you do get weeds in the gravel itself you will only have to dislodge them from the gravel.
