A neighbour has two acres he wants cut for free just to maintain it more than anything else. Do I make a few bales (possibly hay) out of it or just top it and leave it on ground. It the ground contains half grass half buttercups /dandelions. Is it worth picking up?

    I'd nearly chance hay.
Dandelions are edible (every part in fact from the root to the top).
Buttercups not so. So I wouldn't advise silage.
But in hay, buttercups are fine. It seems the drying out negates the risk.

It'll turn very quick, in a few days anyway.

You’ve also invested less than wrapping it as it’s never going to be premium silage.

    It'd be poisonous silage.

I have made plenty of silage with buttercups without any issues. But agree at 50% mix hay would be the best option.
Toxicity: Buttercups are poisonous to livestock if consumed. However, they are
rarely eaten by farm animals if other forage is available. The main signs of
poisoning are oral or gastrointestinal irritation. If harvested in hay or silage,
buttercups pose no threat as the drying process eliminates the toxic agent and in
general their presence in heavy crops would be very low.

Half the country does too. A bale of buttercups would have been worth a good bit a month or two ago.
To op your getting two acres for free. cut it wilt it or save it as hay, whatever has to be done. its not going to break you. If your doing it on a regular basis, come to some agreement with the farmer and spray it and tidy it for the next time.
