There's very little chance of the Irish authorities rounding up the more than 1,000 Pakistani/Asian men illegally in Ireland due to sham marriages.
And that's only those that are known about. These 1,000 could be just the tip of the iceberg.

But good job on the Gardai in getting rid of Muhammad “Romi” Ramzan though, as he was responsible for more than 100 of the illegal Latvian bride marriages.

It would be beneficial if the Irish authorities could be more proactive on border controls to stop or at least be more inquisitive of these types of visitors to the country.

How did they kick him out of the country in a week? Should have thought he'd get another 10 years here with more appeals?

Can't get why all were not rounded up and one plane to send them all back.

No class from the Gardai there.
One of them should have dressed in cricket whites, taken over the bowling, bowled him out, and handcuffed him.

Not to worry .............. like most asylum chancers he played the system. He applied for asylum in 2008 and appealed after it was rejected. After his appeal was rejected, he then went to his backup plan of marrying a 20-year-old Latvian woman, and then got residency in the country.

And what does he do after getting residency? Commit substantial fraud in Ireland.
And what were the consequences for these illegal activities over a number of years? One week in Cloverhill Prison.

That is not a deterrent to him or others looking at ways for illegal entry into this social welfare paradise.

Yeah, but if he bowled a 'Chinaman' it would have been a 'wrong'un'!
That's enough cricket puns - MOD.

And yet some posters, not looking at any cricket fans, are always telling us we are racist because we want strict immigration controls and that the immigration system is fine as it is.

And I notice we are also getting like the Brits describing some guys, from a certain country, as "Asian".
I don't like cricket, oh no.

Any comment on lax immigration ?

Maybe the Garda should raid some more cricket clubs to find yet more Asians married to Latvians.

Seems quite efficient to me. A week there while they got the necessary paperwork done to get him back to where he came from.
Would you prefer a long drawn out process paid for with your taxes clogging up the legal system?

I don't think the 1,000 men are still in Ireland.  My understanding is that it's a back door into the EU (UK mainly).  My understanding is that they marry an EU, non-Irish woman here and then get right of residency anywhere in the EU and off they go.

Should have arrested the 11 of them out in Malahide last week. Would have been a great start to our test career.

Half of them Filipina maids and child minders are here illegally. Why are they not rounded up and sent home?

Not sure if you read the story in the link.
Well over 1,000 men, almost all Asian, paid between €15,000 and €20,000 each to criminals – some to Ramzan – who arranged their marriage in Ireland to European women they had never met before.

So prolific was his operation that the Garda inquiry linked Ramzan to the booking of more than 100 flights for brides. He also facilitated illegal immigration and the supply of false documents.

I want him to serve real time in prison for his underworld activities before he is deported.
Otherwise, there is no deterrent or no real punishment for his criminality.

..and I disagree with keeping him in prison for years at the tax payers expense. I prefer the option of washing your hands of him and sending him packing to his home country who can look after him.

The punishment is that he can no longer live in Ireland and carry out illegal activities and the deterrent is sendng him back to Pakistan from where it'll be fairly difficult to carry on doing what he was doing.

How the hell was he not turned away the minute he arrived.

I believe airlines should be fined for bringing in these economic tourists.

How could anyone believe all this crap about they fear for their safety yaday yada.
Sure I fear for my safety here as criminals are taking over.

Many move on to the UK and many of the marriages have been revoked and Ireland is no longer seen as the easy touch it used to be.

But you'll always have immigrants without proper status - just liek you have thousands of Irish without proper status in USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries.

And just like the illegal Irish, most are simply looking for better opportunities in life.

court ruled on it a while time ago and he went underground, but a little detective work led to his love of cricket and a simple procedure of popping him on the next available plane

Imagine if this was against an Irish person of a similar age playing GAA in New York. His parents would be on the Late Late right away and we'd be outraged.......But tbh someone living here illegally isn't a bad person, they just come to find work and make some money. No more than I'd vilify the Irish illegal in America, I wouldn't vilify this guy. If you get caught though, you get caught.

    Indeed.

He was actively recruiting 'brides' and facilitating fraud in the state and gaining thousands at a time... not just making _some_ money.

    Not really.

Plus what he was doing was wrong and illegal

Ehh you did see the word GUYS.

I don't think any of these "Asians" were marrying Latvian blokes.

Although it would certainly help them with any asylum claims in the future as there is no way in hell they could ever go home to "Asia" after marrying a lad, no matter where they were from.

Yes that's fair that illegals could be deported, but equating an Irish lad working in the States with a guy that was engaged in criminality organising sham marriages between EU citizens and illegals is kinda different don't you think.

Maybe harder for the authorities in the other countries to investigate the sham marriages this way as well .

Yeah, this is why people emigrate. In his case, he had better opportunities to arrange sham marriages :)
It's not fair to people that come here legally to allow illegals to stay.

Well it i for one hope the any of the Irish who are living illegally abroad are flung out of those countries and return here much like those who are living illegally here should do once you stop setting down a marker to immigration it becomes a free for all across the planet which would lead to an absolute chaotic and dysfunctional society and no one with any sense wants that.
