2 credits short

Would anyone know if there is anything I can do about the fact that I have been told I am 2 credits short of qualifying for illness benefit?

Only out the last 3 weeks but waiting on hospital for an 'urgent' appointment so it maybe another 3/4 weeks.
I was told I have the qualifying 39 credits but 2 are a different class so donot count. I'm gutted, absolutely no income whatsoever as work does not pay while out.

    Any advise appreciated.

You could look for part time work. All you need is one day per week to get the missing stamps. Theoretically anybody could employ you. A friend, your mother/father or your partner. Of course they have to pay you wages and pay your social insurance contributions. Don't forget the tax aspect.
But you could stick to the minimum wage- and you get the lot for under 200 euros.....

Thanks for your reply. The guy said the shortage was from the year 2016 as that's how they assess your eligibility? , So if I was to do as you suggest would it even count?
Apologies if you can't answer that just really trying to figure it out..

stamps you build up now(2018)won't count. They usually look at 2 years previous to the year you are claiming for and have a few other criteria they use if needed.Claiming in 2018 you need 39 contributions in 2016 and 104 contributions since you commenced work.
If you don't meet that they will take other years into consideration, check welfare site of citizens info, the info will be there.

Go to a CWO while you try sort it ,they may give you a payment depending on your circumstances.

Sorry- it would only count for 2018. You cannot fill up missing weeks from the past.

Go to yr local social welfare office and ask for an appointment to see a community welfare officer for a payment sick no benefit. They will sort you out with a payment if yr not entitled to illness benefit

Stamps were abolished in 1979 so they definitely won't count.

I know because I commenced full time employment on the 3rd March 1979 and I was treated for tax purposes under the old Insurance system. Then in April 1979 the PRSI system was introduced.

I was issued with a new number which is the one I still use today and is now called the Public Service Number.

I remember being asked for the old RSI number when I made a claim, in spite having sufficient contributions under the new system for what I was looking for (Dental Treatment Benefit). The official in the department still wanted the old number for the 4 weeks I was taxed under the old system and it took a devil amount of time to get.

The supervisor was not happy letting me go into the office to inquire about it as the department would not take inquiries over the phone or by post. You had to go into the office in person during office hours which were the same as my working hours so no avoiding having to miss work.

It worked out well in the end but the management were not happy with Social Welfare being over officious in their enquiries.

I was lucky that the dentist waited for the claim to go through and was not pressing for payment as he could have done in the absence of a clear cut and timely response.

It was 1978. Prsi cons came in in the 1978/1979 tax year. From Jan to April of 1978 there were stamps.

The two contributions that are at a different class - why was that so? Did you earn under 38 euros that week and return a class j? Why have you 37 contributions that year only? What where you doing for the remainder of the year? If you where signing on or at college you may be missing credits. Basically, what I think up need to check is of your record is definitely Correct.

If you are missing contributions for that year you need to go to your employer and ask them to submit a revised p35 to revenue with the correct contributions and then reapply for your benefit.

If you are missing credits you need to contact the Correct department to get them updated é.g maternity section, or the social welfare Office if you were signing.. I hope this helps.

I worked on the election and apparently the contributions even tho taxed, were at J class.. I have requested a re check if credits for that year and am waiting to hear back..
Thanks for your help, I find it hard to get to the bottom of things in these situations, given different information on any given day.. ðŸ‘

Class J is for subsidiary employment, i.e. you had a main job and worked on the elections for a day or two without leaving your main employment. It's charged to loads of public servants who take on extra work at election time.

If that was your situation, then J is the correct PRSI Class.
