Hi, a relative has asked if he can still legally convert his 2017 lwb landcruiser to a crew cab?
If so, who in the Galway/mayo does the conversions, can supply and sign the relevant paperwork?
    Thanks.

Sorry to re-open an old thread, but suppose you buy a 2nd hand Jeep, thats registered as a crewcab, in this case a Hyundai Santa Fe (it has a second row of seats and cargo area is behind that) does that pose any problems for the 2nd owner (I am a paye worker but have always driven commercial Jeep/vans to save money on road tax). But this is my first time considering a crewcab...which as far as I can see is the best of both worlds.

I am aware that legally speaking commercial vehicles are only to be used for work and any passengers are meant to be fellow workers....and that a well clued in Garda could bust you at a check point...and you could also have problems insurance wise too in the case of an accident.

    Anything else I'm missing?

The last time I bought a van, l had to go to the Garda station and sign a declaration that it was for commercial use only, (which isn't strictly true either as its the only vehicle I own). The Garda on the desk on that day couldn't care less, but I've heard of others getting very enthusiastic...

The gardai roadside couldnt give a toss, wouldnt be worried there, but there is a crewcab decleration at first taxing to be signed, some counties ask for 3 PPS numbers of employees, some just ask for a VAT reg etc... some tax offices will ask for vat reg forms etc from revenue.

Kildare is grand but cant vouch for anywhere else, have heard clare and wicklow are nightmares.

is it the first time the vehicle is taxed as a Crewcab ...or first time each new owner taxes it ?

Guy i know purchased a crewcab 2 years ago (navara) and didn't have any probems taxing it. he's not vat registered and was never asked for employee numbers. He just used his pps number for va number. I think the key is to post in the details to the motortax office and not do it in person, that way they can't ask any questions. As for changing tax status to crewcab, another mate of mine did a 07 x5 last year with little problems, there isa guy around rathcoole still signing them off and getting away with it.
