Hi! Newly engaged and just going through the minefield that is choosing a wedding venue. Loving the idea of a country house venue that's not the typical hotel function room venue. Somewhere laid back and a bit different. Am I crazy to think that it's possibly to get a venue like this for less than €100 per head? So far been looking at Ballymagarvey, Tankardstown, Tinakilly house and Clonabreany house so like that style venue. However pricing is coming in at €120-150 per head. Is there such a thing as a venue along these lines in budget. Our numbers are 180 at the moment if that makes a difference. Also like Summerhill and Rathsallagh but we both have family getting married there this year so would like to avoid. Will we have to get married on a Monday in January to get prices down or have any of you has any luck negotiating them down? Would really appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance :-) x

I got married there and it's an amazing venue but the house won't hold 180 :( It would have to be held in the main hotel, which I think the OP is trying to avoid.

Looks absolutely fab, but yeah the house wouldn't hold our numbers, thanks anyway though!

We got married in Tulfarris in Blessington which has the country house but with a purpose built wedding venue which does not have typical hotel function room feel. Would fit 180 (we had 150) definitely recommend!

    Rathsallagh or Brooklodge maybe
There's also Huntington Castle which is just a crossover of Countryhouse/castle and they don't do packages but a venue rent and you need to get the catering in yourself giving you the option to price it up yourself; in my opinion it's one of the lovliest rural castle grounds I've seen. They just don't have large scale on-site accommodation but the closest place with a big hotel would be Bunclody.

Boyne Hill House is another one that might suit. I've photographed there a few times both indoor and outdoor ceremony's and it's fabulous. Definitely an option if Navan isn't too far!

When I looked at Boyne house it was coming in below the 100 euro per head.

I also looked at Moyvalley which as someone said above you would have to use the function room in the hotel which I wasn't fond of.

Looked at Ballymagarvey but just didnt feel special to me. There was no budging on anything. Also didn't like the fact the bar was outside the function room but believe this may have changed since.

I was at a wedding last year in Trudder Lodge. Great venue and really unique. No accommodation though so we stayed in Druids Glenn which was pricey but the only place we could get close by.

I ended up going with Clonabreany for my wedding. The moment I stepped in the front door I fell in love with it. Three years later my friends talk about how good the food was and haven't experienced food as good at a wedding since.

barberstown castle is nice, it's a hotel but the wedding venue is seperate from the hotel and doesn't have that function room feel.

Darver Castle.. will come in well under 100 and it is absolutely beautiful. Not open to public.

Would recommend Virginia Park Lodge or Cloughjordan House, both have beautiful marquees for the meal and can hold ceremonies on the grounds / in the country house etc. The food is gorgeous in both and the day itself can be quite customised so it doesn't feel like a typical hotel reception. I think the price per person can be looked at for both where you could add things in / take things out so it comes out at the best price for you.

All I can speak of is friends experience - a basic price per head in a country house works out way more expensive, because it includes very little else. So if the basic price is €75, rock that up to €100 by the time you pay for stuff that’s not included in the package, unlike a hotel. As long as you’re prepared for that, no worries

Palmerstown House is another option I've worked at a few tines, closer to Dublin and definitely within your budget and number requirements. Fab grounds as well.

I'm getting married in Bellinter House in a couple of weeks.
The staff there have been phenomenal (for the most part).

That’s in the house. They can accommodate bigger numbers in the golf club if required.
    The KClub do similar.

Guys, has anyone any experience of Seagrave Barns in Louth? Looks stunning but very little info and only fairly new venue

Hey, I've worked at a wedding there before. It's a stunning venue IMO. The main house itself is a beautiful manor house with immaculate gardens. The converted shed used for the ceremony is lovely too, very rustic. The guys running the place are sound too, very nice people. The only possible negative (though some people would love it) is that most the accommodation for your guests is essentially glamping. There is one main building with I think 5 or 6 bedrooms, and then you have a few rooms in the manor house, but everyone else is in a fancy tent or campervan. It's quite out of the way too, which is either a pro or a con for some people :) Also, there's a lovely beach just a 10-15 walk away... I wouldn't drive down that road (again :o ... I had to reverse all the way back, it's so narrow)

Thanks so much Bacchus, it's for a friend. Sounds like a good match for what they want. Anything I've read has good reviews if the owners so nice to get that reiterated.

    Hi there,

I'm going to jump on this thread to ask a question!!

Has anyone here recently had their wedding in Castle Leslie and if so, would you have be able to provide an approx. price that you had to pay?

I was given a quote for pp approx 115 to 130e. This includes reception drink and nibbles, 6-course meal and wine as well as evening snacks. I've only started my search, but this seems a little steep? Anyone got any other information they can provide?

If you're not comfortable giving out that information, I'd love to simply get some feedback as to your experience.

    - Thanks

Depending on the time and all this is a high-end venue and prices aren't unusual. Now I haven't been to a wedding there but I've stayed there before and this is a pretty high-end business there, so I'm not overly surprised.
