Evidence of Civil Status

I just made a thread about getting my apostille stamp on my birth cert to get married and now I'm having a full blown panic attack. My fiancee and I are having a short engagement and now it seems that my origninal birth cert needs to be in three places at once and I don't know what to do.

I need to send it back to the United States to get an Apostille Stamp, but apparently I also need to post it off to get a letter of freedom to marry? What do I do?!

Are you sure that you actually need a letter of freedom to marry? I would call the registry office and ask. I'm German and had my 3 month notice appt recently. I did need the apostille stamp, but didn't need a letter of freedom to marry. That was in Dublin, I know that some registry offices ask for more documents. (I guess the requirements might be different for non-EU documents though)

If it's possible why not extend the engagement by a short amount of time to give you some breathing space to get the documentation in order? Arranging things can be stressful enough without putting am arbitrary deadline on it?

I just posted in your other thread about the Apostille, my fiance needed that but not the evidence of civil status as he's an Irish citizen with an Irish passport etc. Are you sure you need it?

My fiance was born in Asia and is Irish. Birth cert needs stamp, but no freedom to marry letter required. As others are advising, go back and ask your registry office if it's needed.

This turned out to be the case! The paperwork they gave us was to prepare us for our couples interview in Naas in which they will decide whether we are legitimate couple or not so the information was a little unclear as to who needed what. I do need the Apostille stamp, but because I am an Irish citizen I don't need the civil status letter, just himself.

Honestly, I'm not sure which is worse...he's a bit useless at getting paperwork done and I'm a bit worried he's going to delay too long!! hehe

Unfortunately, we can't really lengthen our engagement as we've put down deposits on venues etc and I deferred my degree for a year to facilitate my soon to be husbands culture shock and acclimation to Ireland and my daughters acclimation to having a new person living with us. We wanted t make sure we got the full year to settling into married life before I start studying full time which will add its own pressures.
