Adding someone to house deeds

My mother has an apartment built on the side of her house. The main house has no mortgage on it. My husband and I have a house that’s in negative equity and is too small for a growing family. My mother has offered us her house as it’s too big for her. She’ll move into the apartment next door. We will put money into modernising the house but would like the security of part ownership. Therefore we thought my mother would put our names on the deeds along with her own, which she’s happy to do. How do we go about it and what are the tax implications? Thanks

That sounds messy. If three people are on the deeds, are three people going to be on the mortgage?

Each party needs independent legal advice.
