Hi I'm painting the skirting and doors and can't decide, they're varnished at the moment.

    Also can I put satinwood(oil based)over water-based primer/undercoat?

    Thanks

Prime your woodwork with water based bin zinsser.
    Fill nail holes
    Sand
Apply 1st coat of oil based satin wood
    Sand
    Caulk any gaps
Apply 2nd and final coat of satinwood

oil base primer as had a bad experience using water base before especially on poplar as it brought the tannins out through the final finish, was white as well so it was well noticeable

I think zinnzer is totally overrated. Messy to work with. Can't beat the oil undercoat, a few coats are necessary to come from varnish to white. Then finish with satinwood.
