Have a robin with a black patch under its chin visiting my yard the last few days.Is this unusual?

I'd say he's just wet, after having a bath.....

I have seen him lots of times..we know each other for a few years now.I thought it was wet feathers at too first but its definitely colour.I have never seen any of the younger robins turn black so I believe its age

I did a little googling for wet robins and I see some similar pictures.
Wet feathers don't change colour from red to black but wet feathers or taking a bath seems to make some shaggy looking which shows the underbelly.

my conclusion is that my robin is missing feathers as he is always scraggy looking and I dont think he would take a bath every day or maybe he has ocd and does bathe a few times everyday:)

This time of year most birds will bathe if there's water available to them.

Thanks ,I did not know that but the other robins don't change or get scruffy and I have quite a few at this time of year.If it was all got to do with bathing then we would see scruffy robins every day.
So I think the reason is missing feathers and rain or bathing
I had a robin last year with no tail possibly due to a fight,, so the robins around my place are a rough bunch:)
