    So I've not bought the most exciting car in the world but it is black and new so I want to keep it shiny! What advice would you give a total novice?

    Should I wax the car regularly etc.?

    As a minimum I'd get;
    • 2 buckets
    • Decent car shampoo
    • 2 washmits - 1 for the wheels & body up to cill level. The other one for the remainder of the car.
    • Drying towel
    After that it depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.
