The Happytime Murders

I remember hearing about this years and being interested in it. But apart from initial concept art it went quiet for a long time.
But now we have a red band trailer

I expected something different. I guess the best comparison now would be that I expected something along the lines of Happy! with regard the tone.

I'm the same as you. Followed the development of this film for a while and was really excited but the tone is not what I expected.

Thought it was going to be a littler darker and more noir inspired, this just looks like a raunchy comedy, not normally a big Melissa McCarthy fan either.

Kinda hoping the film has a bit more to offer than the trailer suggests.

That trailer comes off as a long, fairly dull variation on this:

I usually keep an open mind with any new IP, and have a soft spot for Brian Henson and his work on Farscape fadó fadó, but that was the biggest pile of sh*t I've seen in a trailer in a long, long time. 13 year olds will love it I guess.

I can't wait to see it, watching the trailer at the weekend and my wife turned to me to ask had I sold a script and not told her as the trailer was exactly what she imagines inside my head is like.

Sesame Workshop are suing STX for tarnishing the Sesame Street brand (more in the promotional material - "No Sesame All Street" - than the actual movie content).

Does Henson not own Sesame Street anymore?

Nope, IIRC Sesame St. is its own entity now, purchasing the rights to the property a few years back, while the Muppets were acquired by Disney.

The trailer is awful and just unfunny.i can wait to see this that's for sure.and sesame street are suing the makers of the movie now so who knows what might happen.

I need to watch it, being a fan of Peter Jackson's early work

In terms of cartoon /puppet adaptation films, Team America / World Police absolutely nailed it, a crude and politically incorrect Thunderbirds that hit all the right comedy and satire buttons...this, along with sausage party looks like an idea in want of a smart script... I loved MM in bridesmaids and got plenty of laughs out of spy, but her trademark stichk is wearing painfully thin by now...

Yeah, that plus what just seems to be a string of jokes about muppets having sex, cursing and doing drugs... it seems a bit one note. I imagine most the laughs will come in the first half of the movie before the plot kicks in and it tapers off into more of a traditional 'buddy cop' movie territory. Like Sausage Party, it'll do nicely some Friday night where I just want to watch something stupid funny.

Agreed, extremely lame going by the trailer. Seems they think muppets as hookers & MM doing her thing is enough so they don't need a decent comic script.

Or perhaps they just put all the rubbish bits in the trailer.

I see this hits cinemas on Monday... I have never noticed a movie released that early before. Trying to pad opening week numbers?

Don't watch much sky or standard tv so was wondering is this getting much advertisement?

When I first heard about the film I thought I'd go to the cinema to see it. Now I'll just wait.

I can't stand Melissa McCarthy. After seeing her in that Spy film and The Heat, it seems her dialogue consists of mostly f-bombs. Not funny at all

Saw it today . Don’t bother going . Poor enough.

This looked like a stinker from the start but damm....

    Rotten Tomatoes 22%
    Metacritic 27%

    From Rolling Stone
"A few critics are calling it the worst movie of the year. Unfair! This R-rated look at a serial killer running wild in a puppet-populated L.A., has what it takes to be a contender for worst of the decade."

Looking at all the media and promos for this just make me wish they made an adaptation of Avenue Q instead. Now that's a smart, adult take on Sesame St, very few F bombs or dìck jokes needed IIRC

    1, 2,3... Everyone's a little bit racist sometimes ....

Such a shame for how this turned out. I wonder where it went wrong, seemed like it was a really hot script in Hollywood for years. Was so excited when I saw concept art and the idea of it, seems like it really strayed from it's potential.

Seconded that an Avenue Q adaptation would be great, only saw it recently. The Internet is really, really great.... FOR PORN!

Very average. Some funny bits. I think they could learn from this and do a better sequel.

Saying that it's the worst movie of the year (or even the decade) is just hyperbole.

If this film helps Melissa McCarthy to fade back into obscurity then all is not lost.
Can't stand her, one trick pony.
