2006 Honda Civic - Alarm constantly sounding after disconnecting battery.

    Hey,
I had to disconnect the battery to get access to a headlight bulb in a 2006 petrol Civic. The alarm went off when I reconnected the battery, and wouldn't shut off using the key fob - it will only stop once I disconnect the battery again. I've had to disconnect the alarm in the boot so that I can drive the car, but obviously I'd like to be able to sort it out so that I can plug it back in. Does anyone know how to reset the alarm on the Civic? Cheers.

Do you have a spare key?
    Is the remote locking working?

Most cars disable the alarm once the ignition is turned but not the civic.

Have you tried start the car with the key or even just turn ignition to on when alarm is going off?

Is it a factory fitted alarm or aftermarket?

Civics have a factory alarm. Sadly starting the car doesn’t reset the alarm (on my one anyway) as I found out a few weeks ago when I only had the spare key on me which had a flat battery.

The battery pack inside the alarm siren is dead and won't hold the charge.

Hazards will keep on flashing? is the remote locking working though

I've tried using the spare key, but no joy. Remote locking is working fine. With the alarm unplugged, the only indication that something is up is the red security LED on the dash flashes on for a few seconds everytime I start/turn off the ignition. The hazards weren't flashing when the alarm was sounding.
I've found a battery for it online which isn't too expensive, so if that's all it is, happy days!

OP I had exact same problem on a 06 CRV which I bought earlier this year.
After unplugging car battery, alarm siren started sounding and wouldn't stop until I unplugged the battery again.

Looks like you already figured it out, but it's due to battery in the siren being dead, and fix is either to unplug siren completely, or replace battery in the siren as you're planning.

I decided to unplug siren and never bother with new battery for it.

Red flashing light on a dash was there for another few days, and then didn't appear anymore.

That's good to know that the red light disappeared after a few days, although I wonder why it does that. I assumed it was coming on to alert you that something is up, i.e. the alarm has been unplugged. I'm hoping replacing the battery is easy enough and fixes the problem, because the cost of a new siren is ridiculous!

You can try one more thing, unless you've done it already.
Plug back in the siren then disconnect the battery.Reconnect it then lock the car with the remote.Wait about 20 seconds (indicators might start flashing rapidly) and then unlock the car via the remote.
This should resync the MICU and the alarm (this only works if the rechargeable battery is OK inside the siren).

Is there any chance that the alarm battery is just discharged and not fecked. Seems odd this just came to light when the vehicle battery went.

The OP disconnected the battery, he didn't mention the battery being goosed. If it would be the case of a depleted main battery, then after a full charge or fitment of a new battery the MICU would resync with the method above.
We have seen this issue about a million times with Hondas over 10 years old and the culprit is usually the battery in the siren.

Ok cool. Might be an idea to get one myself just in case. Where in the back is the battery on an FK hatch?

Cheers, I'll try that tomorrow when an alarm going off won't piss off the neighbours too much.

The siren is behind the boot side trim panel on the driver's side. It's a bit of a pain to access because you have to remove the rear door sill trim, rear trim panel, rear floor mat and rear floor lid before you can remove the side trim panel. The battery is then inside the siren unit itself. I have the digital workshop manual which has diagrams etc. if you need it?

The trims are coming out anyway. I think I have a leak which isn’t coming from the boot door. Seems to be coming from the drivers side but not from the light.

I drive a 2007 Accord and I was just thinking the other day that it would be time to renew the battery pack ;)

Funny, I have a very slight leak in the boot too. Even with the trim out, I haven't been able to locate the source.

It’s usually the seal between the rear screen and the second Perspex screen apparently but not in my case. Spent an evening stripping the hatch. No drain plug in the boot either :(
