Hi folks, looking for some info on aerial set up

We took 3 old aerials down from a chimney.

I want to put up 2 new aerials (hopefully in attic) and want to see exactly what the boxes the old aerials were plugged into are

(Think there is a similar set up on another house where I may also do the same update, but haven't took anything down there yet)

    The 3 old aerials were

1 UHF (was recently being used for Saorview from Truskmore)
2 UHF (was recently used for some Freeview channels from Brougher)
3 VHF old aerial previously used for RTE I think.

Areials 1 and 2 were plugged into box A below. (Saorview into High and Freeview into low)

Output from box A and VHF antenna were plugged into red box B.

As far as I can see output from box B was plugged into masthead amplifier power supply C (actually only has 1 TV output I think) behind the TV set and from there into TV

From what I can see the 2 box's are combiners not amplifiers ?

Or is one of those boxes an amplifier or what was the power supply for ?

(Maybe another box got lost in the removal process but I don't think so ?)

I have tried without the power supply just plugging a new UHF wide band aerial pointed at Brougher into the low input on box A and was able to get some of the Freeview channels.

I also tried without power supply putting the same aerial into the high input and was getting a good signal testing with ProgFinder for one of the Irish frequencies.

So I cant really see what the power supply was doing ?

There must have been a masthead amp. somewhere: most likely the Brougher aerial. It could have been part of the aerial itself: do you still have the old Brougher aerial?

Another possibility is it was/is downstream of the whole lot, maybe in the attic as a distribution amp.

EDIT: Just looking there again, I see I ignored the model no. in the red box, UV1228, which would indeed mean it is an amplifier (UHF/VHF 12 volts power supply, 28 dB gain).

If this setup is still structurally sound, & providing satisfactory reception, it probably won't need an 'update', unless you want to tidy it up by getting rid of the VHF aerial.

About a year from now, Brougher will switch to ch. 37 for its PSB HD mux, which hopefully would be OK with the A/E diplexer used (& presumably group A aerial). Truskmore will move to channels in the 40s, which again will probably be alright, even if it's a group C/D aerial.

    Overdue update.

Thanks Thurston? for all the help in previous posts.

The reason we took these down is the chimney they were on was removed during the house renovation.

One of the old UHF aerials was was in bad shape and both old UFH aerials were really too big for the available space in the attic.

So what I done was bought 2 new smaller aerials and put them in the attic and connected them to the combiner box. I left out the mast head amplifier and power supply for now and it seems to be working OK at the moment without them for Saorview and the high powered Freeview channels from Brougher.

I also got an SLX 4 Way Signal Booster with Auto Line powering for masthead amps, so in the event I ever need to put the mast head amplifier back in I think I shouldn't need the separate power supply .

(I also now have sat dish installed for Freesat)
