Hi, would really appreciate some expert knowledge here.

So a shower in the house is missing the on/off (flow) dial/knob. Link to pics below

Is this a simple replace the knob job or do I need to call in a plumber?

Fairly clueless when it comes to this. If you can identify the shower or part I need
    that would be great also.

    Many thanks!

Looks to be more of a cover, if you know the brand, you might be able to get on to tech support of the company for a replacement if you send them a picture and the shower model..

The shower probably still works, but you'll find it a little harder to turn that valve open.
