Hiding onscreen keyboard

I've connected an external (ESync) keyboard via Bluetooth to my Samsung S7. However, when I start using it in say Word, the onscreen keyboard pops up.

How do I (a) have the onscreen keyboard automatically hidden when an external keyboard is detected and (b) how do I _manually_ hide the onscreen keyboard (I saw mention of a swipe command but this doesn't work for me).

    P.
