1.6 Ford Focus car van, does it need commercial insurance?

    My husband is looking at a 1.6 diesel ford focus car van for travelling to and from work, it won't be used for transporting anything or used for work it's just a means for commuting (and my dad is giving it to him so we wouldn't have to buy it which is a plus!).

    Does it have to be insured commercially?

    Does anyone know if it needs DOE if not being used commercially, I read something about that online too?

    As far as I know it needs to be taxed and insured privately but still has to do the annual doe but I'm open to correction on this
