My Irish passport doesn't include my middle name as written on my birth cert. I decided not to include it in 2011 but I've since regretted this as it has led to some problems abroad. Many countries have trouble recognizing a passport that doesn't match the birth cert. Is it easy to change my passport for one that would include my middle name?

It shouldn't be a problem. However, make sure that you specifically say you want the full birth cert name to show.

If I'm correct, there is also an option for 'also known as'.

You would likely have to pay the full passport application fee.

You can get them to have your known as name on the main page (makes it handy if other people buy tickets, as people constantly put my known as name down, even after I tell them my birth cert name) and then a note near the back with your birth cert name.

I have been stopped once or twice but never caused any issue, basically my middle name is what I am known as. So my passport says First name, Cram, Surname. I even book tickets by accident myself under Cram Surname, rather than first name, surname. Aer Lingus once went to charge me before they changed their mind and didn't bother.

TL:DR It shouldn't be an issue but you may have to pay, you could wait till next renewal and get it done then. I have never had issues with Visas (which I presume is your issue?) but then my issue is slightly different to yours

On the page above the passport itself, I have "BIRTH CERT NAME" with my birth cert name, as my name on the passport is the shortened version of my birth cert name, and also it has my middle name.
