Best paint for 200mtr timber fence

I am part of a residents association and we have a 200 mtr long 2 rail fence to paint this weekend and as treasurer I'm trying to source the most cost effective way of painting the fence.

The fence is 10 years old and is in fairly good shape and is the boundary with a main, busy national route. The fence was painted with a brown cheap and cheerful ronseal fencelife cedar colour about 5 years ago. It lasted about a year before it faded badly and was painted black (also ronseal fencelife 5 year)18 months ago - it got 2 coats and needs painting again - the black really didn't take well and the job needs to be done again!!

!t took 18 gallons of the fence life to do 2 coats black so would appreciate recommendations on best paint on a budget that will last more than a year or two - Black/ dark is the preferred colour.

    Thanks in advance

you need to be clear on whether it was PAINTED or treated with a breathable product.

Painting a TF is a very bad idea as the timber can't breath.
If PAINTED it will need to be stripped and then traded with a breathable product

Cresote (Subsitute) will last much longer than paint. It will smell awful for a couple of weeks, smell will disappear. The mid brown is a nice colour

    Thanks for the responses.

I should clarify that the fence has been treated with ronseal fenclife twice - has never been treated.

Would creosote work in this scenario or would the fence need to be back to bare wood?

Also is creosote suitable for a fence like this - it would be crossed by kids maybe 50 times a day at various spots!

    crossed as in climbed over?

err no...Crocote stays oily and smelly for quite a while...makes lovely stains on clothes

I would recommend you try Cuprinol 5 year Ducksback https://www.woodies.ie/cuprinol-ducksback-autumn-gold-5-litre-1070499?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItLCvu9iN2wIVRbcbCh0EYgRuEAQYAiABEgIym_D_BwE

It will certainly cost a little more than Fencelife but in my opinion it will be worth it.

I once painted one side of my fences in Fencelife and could not get another bucket of the same colour for the other side so bought Cuprinol instead. The difference in the water repellency was amazing. On the Cuprinol side, you could see the rain water beading on the surface and on the Fencelife side, the fences were just soaking wet.

I even wrote to Ronseal to complain and they wanted to send up an inspector but in the end I just let it go.
