New windows or reglaze timber

So, new property has big timber sash windows. They are lovely.

Except they're single glazed (I'd say it's the thinnest glass I've ever seen in a window). Not sure which wood it is, some kind of hardwood.

I'm being quoted (by more than one vendor) ~1k per window for draught proofing + repaint + double glazing. A similar window (upvc) seems to be around that price as well, slightly cheaper even.

No planning/listed building issues, it's ok to replace them.

Is it worth it though? It would be a shame to get rid of them, upvc would give a better u-value and draught proofing at the same time some upvc windows seems to fall apart after a while (or just get dark/ugly). I suppose aluclad would be more expensive but could be an option.
