If my little lad is in mainstream preschool, is he entitled? It says he must not have an early intervention placement. Does that mean a specialist placement or any early years placement. Confused.

No, you're not. You are still entitled to July Provision, though only for 10 hours per week instead of 20.

He can have a home tutor or be enrolled in one of the ABA preschools and avail of Home Tuition. If he's in mainstream or an Early Intervention Class/ASD Unit within mainstream, he can't avail of it.

Are you sure about that Vorsprung? We were told by our local seno that we were entitled to 5 hours (he was already getting 15 hours through mainstream preschool). We never actually availed of it though so maybe we were given incorrect information.

That was my understanding, but as with all these things, I guess the information can vary with the person giving it.

Unfortunately this is so very true.

I’m livid - my autistic daughter who can’t speak, feed herself, go to the toilet, ask for anything etc has pretty much been forced to go to a unit almost 20 miles away from us. The SENO was spoken to on a personal level, filled the forms and kept the cover letter I wrote which was for the dept of ed and not her! She is 100% not ready for anything like that yet I’m so upset
