Gammon - racist or just good fun?

The term "Gammon" is being used to describe Brexit voters - as their anger rises and the face reddens, the appearance is similar to the tasty cured meat.

Is 'Gammon' any worse than Libtard, or any of the pejorative terms for the other side?

I think it's a fairly accurate description and a bit of harmless fun! :p

Gammon” is a slur and an outrage. But the gammonery have a champion: the DUP MP Emma Little-Pengelly says that “this is a term based on skin colour & age – stereotyping by colour or age is wrong no matter what race, age or community. It’s just wrong.”

DUP......christ I am out!!! get to ****!! :pac:

Look, you had Tom Conti saying that the term "Luvvie" was as abusive as the N-word.

Oh and The Guardian are ones to talk about Right Wing Snowflakes since columnists like Owen Jones have skin as thin as paper.

"Gammon" seems to be an insult akin to "Remoaner" and "SJW", and the people using it seem to be mostly white, and they are insulting other white men, so not sure how it can be seen as racist.

Also, I do find it funny to see right wingers calling something racist. Them right wingers are some snow flakes ;), and massive hypocrites.

Still its funny how quick right wingers will call something racist, when they get a small taste of there own medicine.

If that's the qualifying trademark (aside from the whole brexiteer thing) then there's a good bit of gammon to be found right here on boards

Agreed - I think it can be applied on a global scale. You can find parallels everywhere.

I don't think it's racist, but people who use the physical appearance of others in order support their point (or lack thereof) or criticisms are muppets. And I say that as a fairly dyed in the wool liberal.

Remoaner/Snowflake aren't equivalent. That said, I don't give that much of a toss either way.

I must have a humour deficit if describing someone as gammon is 'a bit of fun'. Or any of the other cheap digs that pass for considered opinion. Its like swearing, just occasionally a swearword is a satisfying way of expressing irritation or exasperation, but when it is used as a lazy part of everyday language then it becomes pointless, tedious and immature.

You have to read that in a pompous, superior voice... just saying before someone else does.

Brexiteers aren't a race so therefore it can't be racist.

That said, it is just an ad hominem and does little to illustrate the problems with Brexit. It just indicates that the asserter dislikes Brexiteers.

And it's only mildly amusing. This sort of outrage should warrant a name that's a fcuking riot.

I had actually never heard Gammon before in this context.
Bit far-fetched but I suppose could be somewhat accurate.

Is there any good nicknames for remainers? Besides "losers".
