Location chargers app?

I am looking at developing an app for EV owners to locate chargers across Ireland & UK. Are there any apps, apart from the ESB app here, that do that? And do you think there would be such demand for that kind of app?

Zap Map does something similar already. Maybe have a look and see if you can come up with any additional features that would make your app better than Zap Map?

I use a combination of Zap-Map and PlugShare. Both have pros and cons.

Getting up to date info on the state of the chargers (working, not working) and having a single app that all drivers use to check-in and out, with expected charge completion times would be great. But getting everyone on the one app is the big challenge.

Thanks for this tip. New PHEV owner here and tricky to find chargers other than the ESB ones.

Randomly find some in shopping centres etc and often you need to the download a specific app and register etc..... a bit frustrating but that might ease off as I get a few apps installed. But then I'll have 5 different apps to charge my car....

Zapmap, Plugshare, Chargemap, Newmotion all do it.

Key features for any app are:
    - comprehensive list of chargers by type
    - live status of each charger
    - photos/directions for each charger

It’s a crowded space i am afraid so you would need to bring some serious innovation.

For me integration with car play or a mechanism to send the best charger option to my navigation while i am driving using Siri/Alexa . A combination of a better route planner and PlugShare would be a start for basic functionality.

Agreed here, Zap Map have about 20 people working for them. So you would want to have features they dont.

IF you do come up with features that the rest do not have, what is to stop Zap map throwing 20 people at it and having it a while later?

Is there a patent system in place for apps?

Is it worth while? how much can you make from an app?

I would like a feature to let me know when a charger becomes free , so you would get a notification via the app , as part of this feature I would like a count of the already registered notifications (these would of course only remain valid for a 24 hour period)

Also would be nice to have a % usage on charger to predict availability

And a % reliability as many in Limerick are often not working

Nice ideas, tie it into a route planner that show chargers along the route being occupied or free and it takes the anticipation stress away.
