Conservatory roof

Hi guys, my conservatory roof needs something done with it the heat is unbearable.
I’m hoping to get a loan for an extension in a year or so which will mean I’m knocking it down. I’d like to insulate it in the meantime but not spend much on it.
Would it work if I put the foil backed insulation boards between the joists that hold the plasticy ceiling up. Then just held them up there with lengths of 2x1 wood.
Of course I’m not expecting air tightness or an a1 rating. I just don’t want to bake everytime I have to go out there.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Oh an there is a slight leak in the roof so is there insulation that wouldn’t be affected by the odd splash of water..

Anyone have any pointers for me?
I was hoping to get started tomorrow.

So the main problem is the sunlight heating the room through the glass. Block it with anything....not necessarily insulation and you will cut down on heat transfer.

Would the polystyrene snowy stuff you get in flat packs and stuff work? That’s be lighter. I’m worried about pulling the roof down.

This is one for Dermot Bannon.

Haha Dermot bannon would ruin my 100 euro budget. Build an extension and put a patio in the garden.
He’d probably insulate the glass with more glass too.

Anything which blocks the sun will work. It just depends on how long you plan to live with the temporary measure. If it’s for a couple of years, you might want to spend a few quid and possibly slabbing and plastering it if you can. But if you’re happy with some polystyrene....then go for it. Just keep the candles away from it! IOW.....maybe use something less flammable.

You need to block the sun from the outside. Once it's through the glass you're doomed.

Try a simple solution paint on greenhouse shading http://www.greenhousegrower.com/technology/equipment/keeping-cool-with-greenhouse-shading/ example https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vitax-500ml-Summer-Greenhouse-Shading/dp/B00GRUBNHG/.

Edit> Just so people know it goes on wet with brush or spray and dries to a sort of powder that sticks on through the rain but is quite easy to remove in the Autum so only a summer treatment.

Insulating will only delay the heat transfer. And then it will take longer to cool down. Block out the sun if possible

That’s an excellent point thanks. I’ll look into the painting it so?

Depending on the shape of the roof, if you can tie down a decent tarpaulin then it will stop the sun getting in.
Be careful about accessing the roof for painting....

Would heat reflective window tint help?
