came across this and thought it was interesting..
showing how many recalls a manufactures has per 1,000 cars made.
Porsche are the best with 531 recalls for every 1,000 cars.... and VW is the worst with 1,805 for every 1,000.

Mercedes do well ... but for a premium brand BMW really are down the bottom..

It's hard to know what to make of that.

You'd usually think that a manufacturer with a low level of recalls doesn't necessarily mean the product is good, just that the manufacturer is good at dodging recalls. Companies that issue lots of recalls are doing it in the customers interest in most cases but it's rarely perceived that way. But then all that goes out the window with the while VW group thing.

Interesting that 6 out of the top 11 below the industry average are from Asian manufacturers, also interesting how different Hyundai and Kia are.

Why for the industry average do cars recalled outnumber the cars sold?

I think they are counting cars that have been recalled on more than one occasion.

More than one recall per car.

We had one recall on our Corolla* for passenger airbag about 18 months ago, another for driver's airbag in the last 6 months. That's 2 recalls for what is really a single issue and the fault of Takata, not Toyota.

    * Don't judge me, it's the wife's car and I get my automotive kicks on two wheels not four :)

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I think global media, social media etc. will make recalls more common. Plus the race to the bottom in terms of cost cutting.

Depends if the recall is proactive or reactive and how good your PR department are.
