    It's not related to post count, it's something that's only for subscribers. Though any custom avatar stays after a sub expires.

    Hi Gary Gleeson,

    As Spear says, the custom Avatar option is only available to Subscribers. You can subscribe for one month for €5, upload a custom Avatar, and it will remain after your subscription elapses.
