I don't need to stress about this any more since they brought the hurling final forward! :)

OHs place is back Thursday 23rd and they gave only one day to play with too according to her

If schools are back so early, why are jobs advertised with start dates of September 3rd?

Maybe they are ‘front loading’ the CP hrs?

Starting on the 27th means you do the 167 days, with the extra day counting for 6 CP hours. We were not consulted on when we were returning, having being told last week that we were coming back on the 23rd.

Correct, which means that teachers starting their first contract will not be paid for the first week's work.

No consultation has to happen on start date but there can only be CP days before term begins if staff agree to it.

My school is back on the 27th with a day off later in the year.

The "extra day" is only for CP if it's not a teaching day with students in and is pre agreed by consultation with staff.

Our extra day is a teaching day, not a CP day so we have one day off later in the year.

    Same as that for me.
It really amazes me how in some schools the staff let management walk all over them on this stuff.

Assigning that one day off to a Friday of a bank holiday weekend is tempting!

Does your school have a half-day on a Friday? If so, then remember that you would be trading a full day in school for it!

That's not true. They're being paid for 167 days work. For convenience they're saying that those days are between 1st Sept - 31st August, it's no different to the pay actually being from 24th August - 23rd August.

We usually take it in the first term, about half way through so end of Sept, start of Oct, it really keeps you going when you are getting used to being back at work after the summer. Our own long weekend, it’s great!!

We are back the Monday-27th August.
6 CP hours. no discretionary day going forward. Staff agreed. We couldn't face going back the previous week.
