Using data while on wifi

I was at home last and got a text first to say I'd used my monthly data allowance (in two days) then another to say I'd used my daily allowance , knowing this couldn't be right I checked my account. It shows data being used while I'm at home using wifi, I had data on yesterday while in work but no way I could've used a month's data in that time as its never happened before. And why am I being charged for data while at home using wifi ?
