Hi - I have a UK company that charged 20% vat in GBP to my company registered in Dublin (Ireland) for providing a service. Do I need to account for this vat in Ireland? I do not think this is taxable purchase in Ireland. Does the VAT then form part of my cost?

If you are registered for VAT in Ireland, then you should have provided your VAT id to the UK registered company, and they should not have charged you VAT* (it would be accounted for under the intra-EU transactions section of the VAT3 form). The fact that they have already charged you makes life a lot more difficult for you (assuming you are VAT registered, if you are not, then yes the VAT charged becomes part of your costs)

*There's also the other option, if they are selling enough to Ireland then the must also register for VAT in Ireland, and they should charge Irish VAT (which you would claim back in the normal way)

Have you paid the invoice yet? If not provide them with your VAT number and ask them to reissue the invoice.

Thanks so much for your responses. Luckily the vendor had not been paid so I got them to revise the invoice.

    Appreciate your response.
