    Hi all,
Just wondering anyone out there setting it with a grass tine harrow.
The past few years we have been using our contractor to plough and one pass the oats seed in but this is costing almost a third of the money we actually draw down from this action!!!!
what would people think if the existing cover was grassed or sprayed off, given a few runs of a grass tine harrow, would there be enough clay there to give the oats seed some cover??
we are presently thinking of getting a grass tine harrow (Jarmet, Rakman, Palitine etc) for our grass swards, if it would do this WBC job it would make the purchase more justifiable!!
Was looking at buying a cheap older type disc harrow but I fear it wouldn't have the weight to properly rip the soil up.
a triple K would more than likley bounce around the place also a bit too much for the job.
    any thoughts appreciated.

    Regards.

Haven't done it yet but have been asked. No reason why it shouldn't work once you have the right roller in the airseeder. I've a grain roller that came with mine so should do it.

Not sure if a broadcaster will set it tho. What's the rate for WBC?

As for the cultivations...just let the cattle into it for a while and let them tear it up. Then run your harrow over the ground a few times. It should leave enough soil for planting. Most WBC is spread with a wagtail anyways.

Ya, we won't be incorporating the seeder on the Harrow, wagtail will do the job just fine. I guess it a matter of getting it roughed up enough do the seed will take.

Harrow it before the ground gets rock hard and it'll do the job fine

If you are not ploughing, you will def need to spray, otherwise weeds will take over.

just walked it this evening, i will be out with the spray first chance, one plot has very heavy cover but its too awkward to let the cattle in there. Will let the spray do its thing for 2-3 weeks before i go near it.

I am thinking I might have a go at something other than Oats this year, maybe the Triticale. Suppose to be a smaller seed so it might be easier to cover over??

    Anyone looking at this stuff,

    https://rathcormacgunclub.com/product/glas-seed-crop-mix/

Sounds expensive compared to the normal oats/linseed mix???

We sow it at 93kgs. Grass is at 33kgs. What is your application rate for stitching/oversowing?

I got it last two years. Very happy with it. Less attractive for rats also

The airseeder will put it out at any rate required

    Oversowing is 8kg to 10kg
