About a hour ago I jacked the front of the car up on stands(both sides) and held the wheel horizontal and there is about a inch of play in the rack Could be less than a inch at least 3/4 anyway.

    Is that normal?

The car drives fine doesn't pull to the side but there is a slight bit of play out of the passenger side inner tie rod which I will replace. I found the play on the inner tie rod by jacking one side up at a time and found about a millimeter of play in the inner tie rod on the passenger side. But as said above once I had both sides up and move the wheel with a bit of force into the rack there is a fair bit of play so I'm just wondering if that is normal. Cheers.
