    Hi everyone,

I wanted to check, I got married june last year and we are both on single tax,
my husband is on job seekers allowance since November 2017.

Would it be worth our while contacting the Revenue to tell them we are married, or would this interfere with my husbands job seekers.

My salary is 32K what option is best for us. Any advice welcome.

It would have no effect on his Jobseekers.

You can take on some of his unused tax credits for this year, which would reduce the amount of tax you pay. It would be backdated to the start of the year too, so you would get a repayment of tax through your wages, equal to the amount of unused tax credits that had accumulated.

You can also take on some of his rate band, but being on 32K, this is of no benefit.

Also, ask for a year of marriage review. There may be unused allowances for last year that could generate a refund.

You'll need to complete the IT2 form, and elect for Joint Assessment

You never have to pay more tax as a result of getting married!

The Carer's allowance is taxable however.

Standard details really. All you need to provide is on the Form.

    Name
    Address
    PPS Numbers for you both
    Date of birth
    Date of marriage
How you want to be taxed (jointly, separately or separately treatment - basically as if you never married)
