Best storage heater settings with Devireg 710-2

It's my understanding that the typical devireg controller setup means that the system is optimised based on the current outside temperature and previous nights heating (load) requirements. But how then do folk decide the settings for their storage heaters? I mean does it matter at all whether you have the input at 1 or 9…

I mean does it matter at all whether you have the input at 1 or 9 if you're relying on the devireg controller and it's adjustment knobs to adjust the temperature? I know, silly question probably...
