Qashqai air con problem

I have a 2014 Nissan Qashqai with 85,000km. Air conditioning is blowing warm air and there’s a strange noise. Nissan dealer told me I need a new condenser coil, gas refill and inspection, all costing €800. There’s no evidence of damage which suggests it’s a fault. Anyone come across similar issues and if so how did you resolve it??

    Have they actually looked at?

Porous condensers are a problem with those Qashqais. So they are probably correct. They also use the newer type 1234YF air con gas so if you are getting other quotes for the repair then you need to make sure that whoever is giving you the quote is aware of that as not everybody is equipped to deal with the new gas yet.

Slightly OT but what does the new gas do that the old gas didn't?
I understand that you shouldn't mix gasses and that the new one must be gotten.
Also just out of curiosity, if the OP fully drained his gas could he replace it with the old stuff?

    Thanks

    1234yf is more environmentally friendly.

The fittings on the ports are different on 1234yf cars so you can’t easily use 134A instead. Which is not to say that some “enterprising” sorts haven’t found a way of doing it.

The old gas is going through the roof price wise anyway while the new gas is getting cheaper so before long there won’t be any point messing about trying to fill with 134A.

Colm_mcm the dealer and the sub contractor expert have looked at it, cost me €145 to tell me the problem. The part is over €300, the gas which I’m aware is the newer type is €345 plus vat and labour. The biggest question is, should Nissan stand over this and fix it??? They have offered to cover a fraction of the part.
